The Chinese Antique Furniture is not
only the essence of the culture of 5,000 years, also the crystallization
of peoples' wisdom and painstaking.
From the furniture, you will find some characteristics and symbols
of that dynasty or period. In the long history of China the most
famous style of the furniture is in Ming
and Qing Dynasty.
Almost 90% of Ming style furniture were very simple, they were
all with simple lines, round legs & corners, and some of them
were tapered style. But it not means all the furniture in Ming
dynasty were with simple shape, still there were some pieces were
with full carvings, certainly there were for the prominent officials
and eminent personages use.
At the beginning of Qing, the furniture was still very simple.
From Middle Qing
Dynasty, most of them were start to have some carvings, even
till the end of 19 century, the carvings became more and more
serious. In short, the history of Chinese Antique Furniture, is
the history from Simple to Complicate.
On the other side, another way to separate Chinese Antique Furniture
is according to the regions that means South style and North
style.
Because of the economics of South is always better than North's
in China, so the job and work of South furniture are always better
than North too. Usually, the South style furniture is always very
delicate and exquisite, most of them are with nice carvings and
beautiful golden paintings. The North style furniture are very
strong, thick, bulky, simple and always in big size. Even the
wood in South and North are different.
For example, Elm in North, we call it lm"; but Elm in South, we
call it South Elm ( Jumu )". Why there are two different names
of one kind of wood, is because the Elm wood in South obtains
more sunshine, rain and nutrient, so that the wood texture of
South Elm are much more pretty than the North Elm, and the quality
too.
Zhejiang
Province is the economic center of China in accent anciently.
So people In Zhejiang keep a lot of nice furniture until now.
One thing that is the only a pity of Antique Furniture and everybody
knows, it will expand and contract according to the weather is
dry or wet. Because it is antique furniture, not same as new ones
which put under the high temperature enough. So if you find your
antique furniture expands or contracts don't worry about the move
and split, you can put a bowl of water inside your furniture,
it will be helpful.
Now the Chinese furniture is coming into our daily life after
well refinished, so that it can be practical used everywhere,
office exhibition hall, hotel lobby and even in our apartment.
